Switch2 recognised for decade of customer excellence and innovation

Community and district heating specialist Switch2 Energy has been shortlisted for two Project of the Decade Awards by The Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE).

Switch2 is a finalist in the Customer Engagement and Innovation award categories, which is a mark of its success in pioneering smart metering and pay-as-you-go technologies, and ensuring that the customer is at the heart of its community and district heating schemes.

Kirsty Lambert, Director of Switch2 Energy, said: “Our success over the past 35 years is based on developing innovative products and services that meet the needs of residents, who are the daily users of heat networks. They require  a reliable supply of  affordable, low carbon heat, as well as a  service that  is transparent, fair and easy to use.

“We work very hard to meet and exceed these standards by engaging with residents throughout the entire lifecycle of community heating projects.  We believe that we have revolutionised pay-as-you-go smart metering for residents on community heating, and were the first to introduce such technologies back in 1985. Our close customer relationships mean that we can continually innovate and meet the needs of both residents and clients.”

In 2016, Switch2 won the ADE Customer Engagement Project of the Year Award for its partnership with Sheffield City Council. The company’s pay-as-you-go smart meters are helping the residents to achieve average 38% cost savings on their district heating bills. This initiative was supported by a major customer and community engagement and education programme – designed and implemented by Switch2 – to ensure seamless project delivery.

The company also recently won the Housing Excellence Supplier of the Year Award for its commitment to tackling fuel poverty and addressing the needs of vulnerable residents connected to heat networks.

Switch2 provides an end-to-end service to the district and community heating sector – supplying 70,000 residents and 180 clients across 500 heat networks. The company partners with private developers, local authorities and housing associations to serve the needs of their residents. The company’s services  include equipment supply, metering, billing and pay-as-you-go, through to maintenance, energy centre management and customer services.
