This Christmas kind-hearted staff from Saltaire-based Switch2 Energy have donated more than £1500 worth of gifts to the Christmas toy appeal by Kinship Carers.
The annual toy appeal aims to ensure that no child or young person goes without a gift this Christmas, which will be more difficult for many in current challenging economic times.
Chloe Chandler, Business Development Manager and toy appeal organiser, said: “I have been following Kinship Carers for a while and the important work they do to try and gain the same support for Kinship Carers as the support received by traditional foster carers. I wanted to support this charity to try and take a little pressure off these families who are already struggling and bring a little joy to these children at Christmas. Through this appeal we have managed to raise more awareness for the charity and the support from colleagues has been absolutely amazing!”
Catherine Philips, senior support worker at Kinship Carers said: “Kinship carers are friends or family members who step in to raise a child who for a range of reasons cannot live with their birth parents. Christmas can be a tricky time for some kinship families who are facing financial hardship. Kinship project workers like me are working extremely hard across West Yorkshire to support families through this. We know that for many kinship families support with Christmas gifts for their kinship children really can make a world of difference. That’s why we’re so grateful to organisations like Switch2 that donate gifts to help support our most vulnerable families, and ensure that as many children as possible will wake up on Christmas morning with a little something under the tree with their name on it. If you would like to find out more about Kinship or if you are a kinship carer and are looking for support please visit our Kinship Compass Hub.”
