Switch2 Energy shortlisted for HVACR Technology of the Year

Switch2 Energy’s G10 Smart Metering Hub has been shortlisted in the ‘HVACR Technology of the Year’ category at the Energy Awards 2026, recognising its ability to drive improvements in energy efficiency and support residents to better manage their energy use and bills.

Now in its 17th year, the Energy Awards celebrate the new technologies, achievements, and commitment to excellence made across the energy sector in areas including business leadership and customer service to collaboration.

The G10 Smart Metering Hub is the first smart meter to offer tap-and-pay functionality, making instant top-up payments more accessible and convenient for residents without requiring their own internet connection or account setup.

Designed through extensive collaboration with housing providers, residents and heat network operators, the G10 provides automated performance monitoring through its open API and SaaS model.

Crucially, it is designed to prevent vendor lock-in, giving operators the freedom to switch billing providers and credit options without replacing hardware. This protects long-term flexibility, reduces future upgrade costs and gives clients greater control over how their heat networks are managed.

The G10 uses 5G and Amazon IoT infrastructure to deliver secure, real-time data transfer, which enables installation at any scale without extra infrastructure costs.

Richard Harrison, CEO of Switch2 Energy, said:

“Heat networks play a vital role in the UK’s decarbonisation journey, and smarter systems are essential to making them work better for everyone. The G10 represents the next generation of smart metering, designed to meet new regulatory standards and environmental challenges.

“Our aim was to solve operational challenges for housing providers and heat network operators through the G10’s development while improving the everyday experiences for residents, and we’re proud to see our team’s dedication recognised with a place on the Energy Awards shortlist.”

Switch2 previously won the ‘Physical Technology of the Year – Heating and Cooling’ Award at the 2022 Energy Awards for its ICON connected heat interface unit (HIU), which helps improve heat network performance by reducing costs and carbon emissions.

The ICON HIU can operate on the same system as the G10, giving operators unparalleled visibility across their heat network and strengthening Switch2’s data-led approach to improving performance, efficiency and resident outcomes.

The G10 has also received wider industry recognition, winning ‘Domestic Heating Product of the Year’ at the H&V News Awards 2025.

This year’s winners will be announced at the Energy Awards ceremony on Wednesday, 13 May at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.
